Pairs of Animals | sterling silver, nickel silver, leather 9x35x2cm 202
Norigae not only serves to increase the decorative effect of attire but also holds an implication for faith when blessing for personal health and luck. Traditional Korean norigae generally features schematized animals as the main characters, and such decorative elements express aesthetic pleasures and the spirits of the era. In this exhibition, I imagined the medium of praying for good luck produced in the metal press technique through a metal die. For a year, I have consistently collected metal dies to create these animal figures. In imprinting the repetitive animal figures with this die, I could express “pairs of animals” instead of one animal to create norigae that gives hope of encounters, great happiness, and affluence.
